Jon Kaplan (he/him) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate (LCMHCA) providing individual therapy in person and via telehealth to those ages 20 and up. He received his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University and his bachelor’s degree in political science from American University in Washington, D.C.
Counseling is a career change for Jon after spending many years working as a musician, writer, and parent. It’s a natural shift in which he uses his life experience, natural empathy, warmth, and a sincere interest in others’ lives to connect with clients.
Jon approaches therapy from a person-centered perspective and is influenced by Existential and Feminist therapy as well as drawing on ideas from Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He sees therapy as a collaborative journey between fellow human beings in a nonjudgmental space, with the most important aspect being the right fit between therapist and client.
Jon works with clients who bring a variety of concerns to the room including relationship issues, caregiver stress, grief, life transitions, and parenting. Jon welcomes clients from all backgrounds and identities.
In his free time, you might find Jon exploring hiking trails, going to concerts, or looking for the best ice cream in the area (suggestions welcome!)
Jon currently works with individuals aged 20 years and older.

We are guided by principles of awareness, compassion and change in our clinical and community-based work. We seek to bring awareness to issues such as racial trauma, interpersonal violence, LGBTQ+ affirmative care and women’s health concerns. We offer accessible services and extensive training through our counseling internship program. And we partner with community groups engaged in activism with and for marginalized groups.
