About Me

Melissa (she/they) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and an Outpatient Psychotherapist. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology at The University of California Santa Cruz, and her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health at North Carolina Central University. Melissa is also a certified yoga teacher (YT200).

As a therapist, Melissa approaches her work with a reverence for the uniqueness of each individual’s experience. It is her hope to create a therapeutic relationship based on compassion, trust, and respect while providing a warm, non-judgmental space for clients. Her style is grounding, patient, and contemplative. Melissa draws from various approaches to meet each client’s needs, including Person-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She additionally enjoys integrating elements of mindfulness and somatic work into her practice.

Much of Melissa’s experience has been centered around adult members of the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals who practice consensual non-monogamy. She may be a good fit for you if you are seeking assistance with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, interpersonal communication, issues surrounding family of origin, boundary setting, or identity development. Melissa is invested in helping clients to thrive and live in a way that is aligned with their values and aspirations. In her free time, she enjoys writing and playing music, spending quality time with friends, and getting outdoors with her partner and sweet rescue dog, Corbin.

OUR MISSIONWHAT WE STAND FOR

We are guided by principles of awareness, compassion and change in our clinical and community-based work. We seek to bring awareness to issues such as racial trauma, interpersonal violence, LGBTQ+ affirmative care and women’s health concerns. We offer accessible services and extensive training through our counseling internship program. And we partner with community groups engaged in activism with and for marginalized groups.
